The Rainbow Family

What is the Rainbow Family? Some say we're the largest non-organization of non-members in the world. We have no leaders, and no organization. To be honest, the Rainbow Family means different things to different people. I think it's safe to say we're into intentional community building, non-violence, and alternative lifestyles. We also believe that Peace and Love are a great thing, and there isn't enough of that in this world. Many of our traditions are based on Native American traditions, and we have a strong orientation to take care of the the Earth. We gather in the National Forests yearly to pray for peace on this planet.

"When the earth is ravaged and the animals are dying, a new tribe of people shall come unto the earth from many colors, classes, creeds, and who by their actions and deeds shall make the earth green again. They will be known as the warriors of the Rainbow" -- Old Native American Prophecy

Sol Fest

SolFest is the world's premier two-day celebration of renewable energy and sustainable living. Since SolFest was born in 1996 over 100,000 people have learned how to change the world while having fun. Each summer SolFest transforms the rural hamlet of Hopland, California, into the global epicenter of green living. Our main stage, family stage, and six workshop tents are filled with world-renowned speakers, musicians and artists, offering keynotes, panels, performances, and over fifty one-hour workshops. The leading developers and distributors of green products and services are here too, sponsoring and exhibiting in hundreds of booths and displays that fill our beautifully landscaped grounds for these two magical days.

SolFest is unique in many ways. It is a learning opportunity second to none. It is a celebration like no other. And it is a magnet for the best and brightest from around the country and the world, who get together every year to exchange ideas, network, and recharge their intellectual and emotional batteries for the year ahead.

SolFest is not a temporary encampment, nor is it a weekend-long set-up in a convention hall. The Solar Living Institute's home, the Solar Living Center, is a unique solar-powered permaculture site. Our year-round commitment to demonstrating to and educating the public embody the principles of SolFest. This gives attendees and sponsors alike a uniquely powerful understanding of the possibilities of renewable energy, green building and more. The Solar Living Institute and SolFest's many sponsors, supporters and volunteers, by "walking the talk" 365 days a year, bring to life our three part goal: Demonstrate, Educate, Activate.

Earthdance: The Global Dance Festival For Peace

Northern California & Worldwide

Sept 13, 2008

Earthdance

Earthdance, the Global Dance Festival for Peace has grown to become the world's largest simultaneous music and dance event. Founded in 1997, with 22 cities and 18 countries participating, Earthdance events have occurred in over 300 cities in 50 countries, with locations ranging from the club-lands of New York to the rainforests of Brazil. Every year, in alignment with the International Day of Peace, over 200,000 people unite in dance with hundreds of thousands more joining online in support of global peace and humanitarian aims. The defining moment of each Earthdance event is a synchronized link-up, (4pm Pacific Standard Time) when every event around the world plays a specially produced song called "The Prayer for Peace" at exactly the same time. Earthdance has been described by the music industry as the "Dance Aid" for the new millennium. The aim of the event is to bring together global communities to create a synchronized global festival and dance event to help fund humanitarian causes and develop an environment of peace throughout the global community.

Please visit the Earthdance International Website at: http://www.earthdance.org to see what cities are particiating in 2008, to find out which charities are being supported, and to find out more about the Global Webcast.

Tour d'Organics 2008

Sebastopol, CA

August 17th

Tour d'Organics

OrganicAthlete is pleased to announce a new series of Tour d'Organics bike rides! Following the success of their events in 2006 and 2007, they are working with local communities to create the same experience of riding from farm to farm around the country. Here's what to expect:

  • Abundant food!
  • Fresh, delicious produce straight from the field!
  • Gorgeous routes!
  • Great community!

2007 was the third year organizing the Tour d'Organics, and what an experience and journey it has been! I feel like we're getting the hang of it. In 2008, OrganicAthlete will organize only one Tour d'Organics ride. It takes a lot of resources for our small non-profit to organize these events, and we'd rather focus on making the event in our hometown a world-class bicycle ride. We've already scheduled our Sebastopol ride, so mark your calendars for Sunday, August 17th.

We would love to see the Tour d'Organics rides grow in other areas, but that growth depends on OrganicAthlete chapters and local organizers to take the seed concept and making it happen in their community. If you're interested in organizing a Tour d'Organics in your area for 2009, please contact me at bradley@organicathlete.org.
